Chapter Thirteen:

Eldred was a smart individual. I remember when Free databases on a public domain were just hitting the school systems when I was in the second grade --- roughly after 9/11

Thought, allowing things to available for free online sounds like a great idea and can work great. There are always those people that ruin the system  and ruin it for everybody.

Corruption
Congress
Copyright

ALL play a role in this new found database of 1995. So, the people that got ahold of copyrighted material before copyright was a thing are fake millionaires that karma is going to find because they stole it!!!

Uhg, it's such a screwy situation, cause like now how do you know what is copyright and what isn't cause the rules change all the time.

"Eric Eldred was fighting a piracy that affects us all"
Page 220

"Eric Eldred discovered, we have set up a system that assures that copyright terms will be repeatedly extended, and extended, and extended. We have created the perfect storm for the public domain. Copyrights have not expired, and will not expire, so long as
Congress is free to be bought to extend them again."
Page 221

This is what scares me the most, is that copyright terms are extended and the perfect storm is going to have no end in site unless the internet somehow magically become obsolete. But it's also like, you end up seeing that same piece or that same article else where just a slight tweak to make it an "unoriginal"

Old..... Soul..... Baby

For being 1969 Woodstock, I love the quality of this photo, and the guys camera protected by duct tape and cardboard. Just makes we wish we could experience life in the 60's.... and 70's.... and 80's...... I feel like I was there then, like I can remember but technically I wasn't.

Lessing Pages 53-79

"teaching writing
is only about teaching kids how to spell.
Text is one part—and increasingly, not the most powerful part"

With having the younger of the generation only learn on computer is pretty absurd. How are they are going to write? How are they going to get the flow, to have the right grip while you write. It UNFORTUNATELY
Does not come completely natural like feeding our faces does.

This discusses the very importance of writing, and how it is slowly decreasing out of school systems. Cause now, Microsoft word is the grader and word tells us when there is a misplaced comma, or period, when a word is spelled incorrectly, if we have run-on sentences, it adds hyphens for us! The possibilities that they don't exactly know the constructive uses of those elements is quite disappointing.

"Television and newspapers are commercial entities.
They must work to keep attention.
If they lose readers, they lose revenue.
Like sharks, they must move on.
But bloggers don’t have a similar constraint."

Blogs in a norm have a different way of adapting and does not have an absence since it's the creator that is sharing the information not just an organization. It creates more of a life and like for the nature of a blog. Fortunately they are easy to come by and easy to fulfill, unfortunately there are to many of them to weed out in order to find the PERFECT story. And that is where the newspaper and the commercial people come into play, is that they can make anything seem as entertainment versus bad news or good news. They can make something super negative seem like an everyday occurrence, and one never forgets it.

Moving on! I find it so hilarious that Film, Recorded Music, Radio, Cable TV, were all born out of piracy. WHICH in today's culture, is highly illegal and one could not get away with it anymore. But why would one want to pirate those now? They already made million, now pirating a time machine. That's a different story.

Hopefully this works!

In efforts to calm myself of all the stresses of life, I went and found myself another four-leaf clover today!! I have found three in one particular patch this year, pretty magical.

Lessing (Free Culture) Pages 7-30

"But in the end, the force of what seems “obvious” to everyone else—the power of “common sense”—would prevail. Their “private interest” would not be allowed to defeat an obvious public gain."

Interestingly enough, this was said at the end of the Wright Brothers, but it has to do with out technology age today - Decades later.

Armstrong, what a strong man to be able to figure out electric induction. But weirdly enough, it only took him 100 years for a patent to be issued for the mist significant invention in history. The Radio!!!
The radio, only took TWO YEARS for thousands of them and stations to be all over America.
Today, it only takes a few HOURS for the latest iPhone to be distributed by MILLIONS across the WORLD. Damn

What a good guy to keep his wits about him with FM radio, cause nobody likes AM radio..? Unless you are in the middle of no where!!!

"this book is about an effect of the Internet beyond the Internet
itself: an effect upon how culture is made"

Even just amongst reading the introduction, this is a very informative book. ( I really enjoy books that say "I" and the author talks about themselves, it just seems to add a personalized touch.

Chapter one:
It all starts with one great idea one "Creator" that nobody really knows, or knows where it came from. Like Steamboat Willie to Mickey Mouse, it was "inspired" by mickey mouse. Therefore turned into "borrowing" we deal with this all the time as college students in the technology age of "stealing" information, or borrowing information it totally changes the concept of learning or being individual.

"The public domain in 1928 was not very old and was
therefore quite vibrant." (Page 24)

We today, are very IN with the times, and are very like a meh attitude.

POL Chapter 10!

This can be a scary chapter.... Global flow based upon our technologies and cultural acceptances. Oh boy. Uhhm, everybody knows where we are at anytime. With Facebook, and the "must" to post every single little thing, and with satellites and drones everybody knows everything. We are no longer private, even in an enclosed room with our laptop or phone, that little camera is not always off. The flow can generate so much, and who's to say if it's negative or positive, that depends on what subject is really being discussed.
Even though a lot of things have global dominance over others, I still find it super important to go and find the little guy and support them! Our culture today is turning in a way that really is not pretty, I could go on and on but I am just happy the way I live my life...
Anyway, off track.... Global art is amazing, fortunately and unfortunately we can access is whenever we want via internet. The saddest part, is that there is SO MUCH more that we are missing when we view art on the internet. We are missing out on the environment, the surroundings, the personal feeling, the colors in the room, But we can view it and discuss it. Maybe remember it because we live such busy lives, how do we really remember anything anymore? It's not just a rhythm we get it on a daily basis but a path that we keep stomping. Art and the global view and culture needs help. I really don't have high hopes for the future, I am actually quite scared for the next five years. But I know that there are great people on my side, and lots of well newly educated individuals.

POL Chapter 8

Okay! Just upon reading the title I instantly became more interested.

I found it really intriguing that they start a "Popular Culture" chapter based on China... since China does rule our world in a sense it is only a matter of production.

Page 311 "Thus, postmodernity refers not just to a style and a form of subjectivity that emerged in late modernity. It also refers to changes in the social and economic conditions that help to produce these style and ways of being a subject..."
So, basically it depends on societal acceptance of a factor for it to be submerged into the art world as a modern piece...

Money + People + Fads + Time + Acceptance + Technology = (Art)

On Page 320, I never knew that about Shrek!!!! I knew it was filled with humor, but not " reflexive jokes about representation", and it makes sense as to why kids love shrek so much is because he is 'different' than the rest of the characters in the movie, and I know that every kid feels different in some shape or form so Shrek was a comfort zone to kids everywhere.
I love the inside joke that the producers have about having a princess know martial arts.

Once again, mass + popular culture + money + Postmodernism - modernism = Today

The lady on the front is in this chapter fyi!
